# Tawked Email

> Transactional e-mail from your own domain: verify the domain with three DNS records, send one message per API call with the application's live key, and follow delivery, bounces and complaints.

Tawked Email sends your transactional mail (order confirmations, receipts, sign-in links, account notices) from your own domain, with one API call per message. Your customers see your address, `orders@yourstore.sa`, never a Tawked one. It is a product of its own: an application turns it on beside Verify or Notifications, or alone.

<Info>
  Tawked Email is **early access**: every account sees it, and it sends once Tawked's team has approved the account's request. Open the application's **Email** area in the console and apply with what you send, how much a month and the domain you send from. The team reviews each request and tells you on WhatsApp, in the console and by e-mail. Until your account is approved, `POST /v1/email/messages` answers `403 email_early_access`, and the console's **Messages** and **Suppressed** pages wait behind a lock.

## How it works

<Steps>
  <Step title="Verify your domain">
    Once your account is approved, add the domain you send from on **Email → Setup** (named **Domains** once the application has sent its first message) and put the three CNAME records the console shows in your DNS. Once they resolve, the domain is verified and any address on it can send. See [Sender domains](/email/senders).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use the application's live key">
    A `tk_live_` key of the application, from **Application settings → API keys**: one with full access, or a custom key with Email set to send (`email:send`). There is no e-mail sandbox, so a `tk_test_` key answers `403 live_key_required`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send">
    `POST /v1/email/messages` with `from`, `to`, `subject` and `html` or `text`. The answer is `202` with an id.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Follow it">
    Read the status with `GET /v1/email/messages/{id}`, or receive `email.delivered`, `email.bounced`, `email.complained` and `email.failed` on the application's [webhook](/webhooks). Every message is listed on **Email → Messages**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Your domain, your account

* **Your own domain only.** Every message leaves from an address on a domain you verified. Public mailbox domains (`gmail.com`, `outlook.com` and the like) cannot be added.
* **Your account is isolated.** Each Tawked account sends on its own: a sender whose mail bounces a lot is paused alone, and another account's mail never affects yours.
* **One recipient per call.** One message, one price, one status. There are no attachments, templates or bulk sends; your system renders the HTML and calls once per recipient.
* **The body is not stored.** Tawked keeps the subject, the addresses and the events for the log, never the content of your mail.

## Bounces, complaints and the suppression list

A bounce is a mail server refusing the message. A permanent bounce (the mailbox does not exist) adds the address to your account's **suppression list**; a transient one (a full mailbox) does not. A complaint is a recipient marking the message as spam: the address is suppressed too.

A send to a suppressed address answers `422 recipient_suppressed` before anything is recorded or charged. **Email → Suppressed** lists every address with its reason and the message that caused it. You can remove an address that bounced by mistake; an address that complained stays.

## Billing

From 1 halala a message, billed per message from your Tawked balance, with nothing monthly. The price is charged when the message is sent and refunded once if it bounces or fails; a complaint keeps it, because the message was delivered. Each account can send up to 2,000 messages a day (Riyadh time); Tawked raises the cap for accounts that need more.

<Note>
  Tawked Email sends transactional mail: messages a customer expects because of something they did. Marketing and bulk mail are not part of it.
